The Director,

Royal Observatory.

sir.

Royal Observatory,

Hong Kong.

6th March 1926.

134

Prior to my departure on 10th months' leave, I have the honour to request that the revision of my salary may be considered in connection with the Estimates for 1927.

The situation caused by Canton presumably prevented the promised consideration with the Estimates for the current? year, and it is with the earnest hope that it may shortly be terminated that I again venture to refer to it.

In support of my application for an increase, I have the honour to refer you to my 27 years' service with H. M. Government in Observatory work, 18+ years' of which have been in the service of this Department, and I would suggest that in the salary revisions that have taken place during my service, my qualifications and experience, in connection with those of the other officers of this Department, have not received the consideration accorded to other technical posta in the service.

I respectfully submit that the post of Chief Assistant in this department is worthy of ranking at least with the following posts in the Government service
